Dr Saira Hussain is a UK-trained Anaesthetist with 20+ years of anaesthetic experience.

Saira undertook her medical education (MBBS) at the University Hospital of Wales College of Medicine (now merged with Cardiff University). After a brief period of maternity leave, she undertook her internship at Singleton and Morriston Hospitals, Swansea (UK). Saira then joined the Anaesthesia Specialty Training Programme in Wales and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) in the UK.

Saira’s first consultant appointment was at the University Hospital of Wales, with a sub-speciality interest in high-risk obstetrics, as well as neurosurgery and major trauma. She had an active role in the research department with a number of publications in high impact journals, and undertook a Master’s Degree (MA) in Healthcare Law and Ethics.

Saira came to Australia in 2011, initially to Queensland and then moved to NSW after obtaining Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA).

Saira is active in the humanitarian sector and contributes through education, production of educational material as well as overseas deployments to zones of conflict and natural disaster. She is a member of the international pool of doctors for Doctors Without Borders (aka MSF).
