PNG Angels is an Australian registered charity that sends volunteer medical teams to Papua New Guinea to conduct life-saving surgeries.

They also provide essential medical supplies and training to equip local medical teams for a better future.

PNG Angels was founded in 2020 by leading neurosurgeon, Dr Marc Coughlan. Since inception, our team has been supporting the establishment of a sustainable neurosurgical capability in PNG.

Twice a year we conduct surgical missions to Port Moresby General Hospital (our partner-on-the-ground), and simultaneously treat patients whilst delivering high-impact clinical training to local medical personnel. Our focus is on education and capacity-building. We also source and donate essential supplies and equipment to help fill a critical gap in PNG.

Our Team

The Coastal Neurosurgical clinical team is pivotal in the charity’s on-going viability. Dr Marc Coughlan has done several surgical missions to the country to perform lifesaving surgery, along with other team members, such as Dr Saira Hussain (anaesthetists), Dr Luke Timmermans (neurosurgical assistant), Susannah Hales (business and practice manager, and registered nurse) and Lisa Copp (clinical nurse specialist).

Objective

Long-term, we envision a self-sustaining neurosurgical team in Port Moresby, working in a state-of-the-art operating theatre that will serve as a critical resource in the fight against neurological disease and injury in Papua New Guinea. There is still a long way to go.

Funding

To date, we have relied on the generosity of a small number of philanthropic individuals, and the RSL Club Grants program to fund our operations. With further investment we can deliver sustainable, ongoing support via our four key programs to make a lasting difference in Papua New Guinea.

As an organisation that is proudly run by volunteers, we have very little overheads, so all donations have a significant impact on patient outcomes in PNG.

Donate

Our team of volunteer surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses are willing and able to provide their time and skills in PNG however, we need funding to get them there!

Your donation will also help with the supply and transportation of essential medical equipment for these specialised surgeries, and assist with plans to build a state-of-the-art surgical theatre.
